Inspiration

900 SD Darmah

In 1979 Ducati presented the 900 SD Darmah, complete with ‘SD’ Sport Desmo acronym, at a time when the racing world prioritised bold graphics that made teams and vehicles instantly recognisable. Colours and liveries served as a common language, a distinctive signature that went beyond the racing. In the Seventies, the black and gold colour combination was everywhere in international motorsport, and it rapidly spread to sports cars and bikes. This aesthetic was at the height of its popularity when Ducati adopted the colours for its 900 SD Darmah. At the time, Italians had a real fascination with exotic places, a fascination that the Bolognese manufacturer translated into imaginative names, like Darmah, or details such as the characteristic tiger head that featured on the side fairing of the 900 Sport Desmo Darmah.

Livery

The Streetfighter V4 S 100 livery makes use of the black and gold palette, one of the most distinctive colour schemes of 1970s motorsport. Black serves as a deep and compact visual base, while gold adds an elegant, bold touch to the graphics and details. Ducati takes up this aesthetic, previously applied to the Supersport and the Darmah, reinterpreting it through a modern lens. The exotic and unmistakable detail of the tiger head is shifted from the side fairing of the 900 SD Darmah to the under-tail of the Streetfighter V4 S 100, its design unchanged and easily recognisable. The logo designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro becomes a distinctive graphic element, a point of convergence between design, heritage and modern interpretation.
